The Art of Living Well Podcast

Jul 22, 2020

We are thrilled to bring you today’s guest, Dr. Karen Pascoe, who is a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Addiction Counselor, Certified Therapeutic Yoga Teacher, an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher and an Ayurveda Yoga Specialist.

Working as a personal trainer while pursuing her Masters Degree in counseling, she saw how exercise improved her clients’ moods, thoughts, and disposition. She began teaching yoga in 1996 and immediately observed her students getting more physically fit in additional to improving their moods, mental abilities and overall have a positive impact on their lives.

Karen worked as a therapist at a hospital in New York City, where she began incorporating a mind-body approach to treating individual’s recovery from both mental illness and substance dependency.

Karen continued her education earning her doctorate while continuing to teach yoga throughout the Denver Metro area and working as a therapist at a drug and alcohol treatment center and at a college-counseling center.

Karen’s own personal journey coupled with her experience lead her to open Mindy Body Life Alchemy in 2014, a holistic wellness center, which represents a personal dream: to truly integrate these intertwining practices of mind and body therapies, and offer them together in a safe and beautiful space. With expert guidance and support, Mind Body Life Alchemy aims to help people reach and surpass their mind, body, and emotional health goals and truly transform their lives.

In our conversation we dive into many important topics relating to anxiety and depression, specifically in teens/tweens and how her studio offers amazing much needed services.  Karen dives into how our thoughts drive our emotions and behavior and what tools people can use to calm their mind.  These topics are even more relevant during times of crisis.  Karen has so much experience working with teens and tweens, which is such an important group that could really use more support to address the mind-body perspective. Karen shares how she works with the parents of teens/tweens to help them better understand their children, and their innate differences and most importantly equip them with the strategies and tools they need to help their child manage through their anxiety and depression.

We also touch on Ayurveda, which is considered the sister science of yoga, that originated in India thousands of years ago.

Links to the dosha quiz we mention (there are several out there so we've included two options):

Chopra Dosha Quiz

If you are a parent, we highly recommend that you take the Dosha  quiz and have your kids do the same. This will greatly help you better understand how you’ll need to parent your child(ren) differently and even understand how foods, exercise and how  sleep can affect them.
