We are thrilled to bring you today’s guest, Sue Kanter. Sue is the owner of Engage Physical Therapy and Wellness, a private physical therapy practice that specializes in helping people get back to moving better, with less pain and getting back to a more active life without expensive drugs and surgeries.
Sue has over 25 years of experience in the healthcare profession. Prior to starting her private practice, she worked in various settings. Sue’s experiences have included being the director of a cardiac rehab, research and employee fitness program at Washington University in St. Louis, MO.; working as a physical therapist at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago, IL.; working in home health physical therapy, and developing and managing a small physical therapy practice in a women’s health club in the Minneapolis west metro.
Sue worked as a physical therapist and clinical education coordinator at Ridgeview Medical Center for 15 years before starting her own private practice. Sue’s primary clinical focus has been on neuromusculoskeletal care and treats neck and back pain/injury, shoulder and elbow pain/injury, hip, knee, foot and ankle pain/injury. Sue has advanced training in manual therapy, medical yoga therapy, chronic pain management, cancer rehab, spinal pain management, and upper and lower extremity injury and pain management.
Sue’s approach to health and well-being is to partner with patients/clients to determine individual values, needs and goals. She feels strongly that it is imperative to help educate patients about up to date research supported information, use evidenced informed evaluation and treatment approaches, while building and maintaining a strong alliance with the individual.
We had such an informative conversation with Sue and we learned how she helps people work through injuries and painful conditions. She is a big proponent of health promotion and prevention and she has a wellness component to her private practice. Sue also provides "physio- fitness", which is a type of medical fitness where she helps improve function, fitness levels, capacity and confidence in the face of medical conditions that might need monitoring by a medical professional. In our conversation Sue also explains how exercise and increased mobility have a profound effect on so many body systems. Working with Sue is like having a personal trainer and physical therapist in one.
