The Art of Living Well Podcast®

May 19, 2021

We are so excited and honored to welcome Jeremiah McElwee, Thrive Market's Chief Marketing Officer, to our show today.

A twenty-seven year veteran of the Natural Products industry, Jeremiah has been on all sides of the business and supply chain, literally from seed to shelf.

Jeremiah was part of the initial startup team at Thrive Market and he currently serves as the Chief Merchandising Officer.

Thrive Market is a leading online marketplace specializing in a highly curated assortment of organic and non-GMO products and focuses on democratizing access to healthy products for the contingent USA. Jeremiah curated Thrive Market’s first catalog offering and he developed the quality guidelines that still drive product purchasing today. In addition to offering thousands of the highest quality natural & organic branded products on the site, Thrive Market has also launched over 700 private label products across all categories with another 500+ in development.

Prior to joining Thrive Market, Jeremiah served for 7 years as the Executive Global Coordinator for the Beauty, Apparel & Wellness categories at Whole Foods Market. During his tenure, he pioneered multiple, industry changing, quality standard initiatives including natural beauty standards, organic labeling requirements for personal care, and the largest ever sustainable packaging guidelines for a major retailer. Jeremiah is also a passionate advocate for and co-creator of Fair Trade standards that changed the natural products landscape.

In addition to developing hundreds of best selling branded products that currently line natural food store shelves and managing the Whole Foods & 365 private label brands, he also helped Dr. Andrew Weil develop his branded product platform.

Thrive Market is a leader in sustainability beyond its well-known online marketplace identity and we are building the world’s first climate positive grocery store

Thrive Market is championing the rise of Regenerative Organic and the regenerative movement plays directly into their mission of democratizing healthy living/eating - underscoring their commitment to making healthy food accessible to all while ensuring there is a secure future of food for all.

We had so much fun talking with Jeremiah and we could have talked for hours.  During our conversation Jeremiah shares his personal story and his health journey to heal himself, which led him on a path to ultimately pursuing a career in the natural food space.

So what is Thrive Market?  Think your natural food store meets Costco.  It’s an online marketplace for the conscience consumer with over 5000 products across all of the categories you need including beef, seafood, household and personal care products in addition to all of the pantry staples you need in your kitchen.

Thrive Market Just Launched Veggie and Protein-Packed Frozen Meals freezer-friendly meals that are freshly prepared and can be delivered to your door.  You can create your own meal bundles based on your specific dietary preferences (plant-based, paleo etc)

Thrive Market is able to pass along the savings from not having a storefront on to the consumer, and they are passionate about ensuring all workers are paid fairly.  They don't slash prices at the expense of creating other issues.

We also dive into Thrive Market’s role with the future of our food system, regenerative agriculture and how they work with farmers.

Jeremiah talks about Thrive Market's appearance in the recently launched Seeding Change documentary: The Power of Conscience Commerce.
